5 more ways to connect with the vector art community
Many of you have shown a strong interest in connecting with the Anchorpoint community beyond the confines of Vectorvault. In response to that request, we are diligently working hard on shaping community features that will bring vector artists and vector art lovers closer together. Every day, thousands of you help to make that dream a reality. Thanks.
Here are a few more tools that will strengthen our community. Your support is valued.
Yasen - Vector art from Bulgaria
Yasen was connected to Vectorvault in the MySpace universe. With over 2100 “friends”, Vectorvault is but one fan of this talented illustrator’s vibrant and electric style.
Colors seem to take on a whole new persona in Yasen’s work. Smooth blues and emerald greens are scooped up by thick walls of black. Shapes and characters seem to overlap with ease.
Many Anchorpoint members have asked about this artist. Enough to lead us back to a few of his more impressive albums. If you are a MySpace member we urge you to reach out and introduce yourself to the artist of Yasen.

FREE VECTOR DOWNLOADS - Vector wallpaper resource
Vectorvault has really been a great vehicle for meeting people who are passionate about digital art. One such person is Anchorpoint member Peter from VectorvaultWallpapers.net. He has taken a special interest in vector art. His website showcases some incredible wallpapers that are easy to browse and inspiring to look at.
Here’s Peter’s definition of vector graphics:
“Vector graphics (also called geometric modeling or object-oriented graphics) is the use of geometrical primitives such as points, lines, curves, and polygons, which are all based upon mathematical equations to represent images in computer graphics. It is used by contrast to the term raster graphics, which is the representation of images as a collection of pixels (dots).”

EK Graphics - Vector flyers and visual identities
UK -
EK Graphics is yet another member of the Anchorpoint collective. They specialize in flyers, corporate identities, illustrations and photography. It seems as though they also enjoy blending all of them together into one distinct style.

Russ Cox - Vector character design
Pennsylvania, USA -
RUSS COX has been a dedicated Anchorpoint member since April of 2008. He was raised by a pack of crazed Hillbillies in the back hills of Tennessee. Without much in the way of modern conveniences, like a television set, he spent his time drawing and whittling away the hours. Having been born into a family with a flare for racing, Russ often dreamed of being the next Bobby Allison or Richard Petty. After dismantling his grandfather’s lawn mower engine, and without a clue on how to get it back together, he soon realized that he did not have a automotive bone in his body. Back to the drawing board he went with his pencil and paper. After spending much of his childhood moving all over the South, his recently divorced mother headed North and settled into the quaint borough of Robesonia, Pennsylvania. While in high school, Russ developed an interest in design and a passion for music. Upon graduating high school he wanted to enter the world of design and illustration. He got his education at a local art school. During this time, he was introduced to a design instructor, Jerry King Musser, who befriended him and help guide his talents. Upon graduating, with a portfolio in his hand, he ventured into the world of design and illustration. Good ole Russ worked for various design and advertising agencies until coming to his senses. With his wife giving him a swift kick start in the rump, he opened his own studio, Smiling Otis Studio, where he presently specializes in illustration and Flash animation. When not slaving in front of a computer screen, Russ loves to spend time with his wife, two kids, and a plethora of pets. He also continues to pursue his passion for music, playing electric and standup bass in 60s surf instrumental/British Invasion band called The New Regency 5. Russ’s so-called musical career highlight was his various gigs playing the infamous CBGB’s in NYC.
“Critics are to artist what dogs are to lamp-posts.”

ANIMATION REEL - Shahbaaz Shah - Video
Fort Collins, CO -
Shahbaaz Shah has been a dedicated Anchorpoint member since march of 2008. we have watched his portfolio develop with great interest because we strongly believe that the next great animated blockbuster will be created by his fingertips.

Shahbaaz’s personality and humour shine through in all of his creations. Especially in his human expressions and movements. It’s obvious that he has become a real student of human nature.
Here is a brief example of a few of his animations:
“Growed up in Fort Collins, CO where I spent a large part of my youth being amazed at all things entertainment. After dabbling a bit in graphic design in high school I was inspired by the movie, Shrek, to focus my interest into computer animation. After receiving a less than desirable education and a B.A. in Media Arts and Animation from the Art Institute of Colorado I joined Animation Mentor where I graduated from in March of 2007 with a certificate in Advance Character Animation Studies.
I have worked as an animator since 2004, starting my career at National CineMedia, where I worked on cinema pre-show advertising. I had a hand in many aspects of production including character animation and motion graphics work. I worked a year at High Moon Studios in Carlsbad, CA on The Bourne Conspiracy video game to be released in June 2008. I was blessed with landing my first key frame character animator job at Blue Sky Studios as a Temp Animator on Horton Hears a Who! Which brings me to the now, where I currently work at Disney Interactive/Avalanche here in Salt Lake City, UT as a character animator.
Along for this wild ride and the source of my strength has been my wife and long time friend Monica and my sons Dominick who is now 3 and Andre who was born leap day 2008. I love all things art and entertainment and I hope to someday be a influential person in the arts and be able to share my talents and knowledge with the audience.”

FREE VECTOR DOWNLOAD - Hair balls?
Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA -
Tony Headrick is probably best known for his design company Neno Design. His company’s vector sample files are very popular and the quality is excellent. Many of our members have been very inspired by these creations, which has forced us to take a closer look at some of the more impressive designs being generated by this innovative company.
Tony started Neno Design when he was still in college in 2002. Six years later his company is still going strong.

This free download is a very generous gesture on behalf of Tony. One that we admire. He’s crafted a few hair balls (you heard me). Take a moment to visit Tony and learn more about what he does. Give thanks to this fellow Anchorpoint member.
Ana Kawaiii - Vector subway maps in the form of animals
Portugal -
Ana is an art student with a genuine passion for vector art. These two selections are paticularly special because they are so simple and unique. These two were sent to us by one of our readers who liked this approach very much. Subways could use some more life. well done.

“I didnt really enjoy doing vectors until now cause i didnt understand how to make them, and nobody teached me how to use Ilustrator…
Then i started seeing tuturials and trying to do things my way, and little by little i was doing things a mouth ago i didnt imagine me capable off…
Vectors are sinnounous of hard work but i really love the clean look in the end.”
-Ana
We are proud to say that Any Kawaii (aka Ana Sofia) has been with Anchorpoint since March of 2008. We plan on watching her portfolio grow as she takes on new and exciting projects. Keep up the great work Ana.
LUMUMBA SANDERS - Hip hop vector illustrations
Philadelphia, PA, USA -
Lumumba Sanders is a freelance illustrator from Philly with a love for hip hop. He has been an active Anchorpoint member since March of 2008. Since then, his work has been discovered by other vector artists within this community. Many of them have bookmarked his site in hopes that we would draw some attention to his work.
His work seems ideal for editorial assignments and music branding. Perhaps he’ll connect with a few rising hip hops stars and get some real attention. We were also reminded of artists like Goldi Gold (another Anchorpoint alumni).
We selected a few of his portraits of Talib Kweil, The Notorious B.I.G. and The Roots. However, his talents also apply to other genres. Check him out.
psyc(tm) - Vector artist from South America
Tatoine, Venezuela -
Here is yet another talented Anchorpoint member who seems to be “pack’n heat”. This 21 year old is slowly working on building his brand around some colorful and cute visuals that seem to catch attention. His blend of photography and vector illustration is quite appealing.

If you like this, you’ll probably enjoy Alberto Seveso.
