Bon-Voyage my first television crush
The lovely Dawn Wells passed away on December 30th, of Covid-19 complications at 82. Like many young kids around my age, I loved transporting myself daily to Gilligan’s Island. Although it was frustrating to see them fail to “get off the island” every single day, it was comforting to know that I would see them again tomorrow. Especially Mary Ann.
Who didn’t have a crush on this sweet face. Her wholesome “girl next door” persona and sitcom timing made her a joy to watch. Director Sherwood Schwartz knew this, giving her beautifully lit closeups that captured Dawn forever in pop culture history:
Thinking about those whose lives have been touched by this virus
As we close out the year, we cannot help but to remember the millions of families that have lost someone to this unforgiving virus. Dawn’s passing is yet another small piece of a much larger story. These nostalgic photos of her made me think of my childhood and all that has been lost from it.
“Dawn was an actress, producer, author, journalist, motivational speaker, teacher, humanitarian, spokesperson, and chairwoman of the Terry Lee Wells Foundation — focusing on women and children in Northern Nevada and ran her Film Actors Boot Camp for 7 years in Idaho,”
Wishing you and your loved ones good health, safety and happiness
