Ivan Sutherlands Sketchpad is one of most influencial programs in the history of graphical user interfaces. Sutherland developed Sketchpad in 1963. That’s over 46 years ago. It’s hard to believe that something so sophisticated has been around so long.
Autocad, Freehand, and Adobe Illustrator (my weapon of choice) all seem to share similar qualities. It’s amazing how many vector based applications follow in the footsteps of Sketchpad.
This video illustrates the simplicity and logic behind the program. This is defenitely the great grandfather of the Wacom Tablet.

Very cool. I had no idea that light pens have been around that long. I guess this one has been sitting in a hangar somewhere along with a couple of UFOs. Nice video.
