Ancient Design Principals Matched With Modern Technique
This is the premier design project for Vectorvault. And what an assignment to be awarded. Every step of the way has been an education and an opportunity to apply the design principals of Vectorvault across several mediums.
Mathematics are at the heart of ancient African culture. Geometry and measurement play a role in architecture as well as the art of that period. Vector art is also based on math. The synergies between ancient and modern techniques allowed this project to flourish. Even with a small dedicated team, and tight timelines, it was the foundation of vector art that allowed this project to be launched on time and on budget…

RasTa at the ROM – Visual design for The Royal Ontario Museum

This Summer I was very honoured to be asked to work on the movie poster and emblem for a documentary called “RasTa – A Soul’s Journey“. Donisha Prendergast is the Grand Daughter of the legendary Bob Marley, and her travels have taken her to the four corners of the world to discover the roots of RasTafari.

“We are pleased and proud to be a part of such an innovative program,” said ROM representatives, Dr. Julian Siggers and Dr. Silvia Forni, who pushed the initiative forward. “It is important to us to be a leader and make a contribution to the Black community”.

Vectorvault has been called upon once again to develop visuals for an Exhibit at The Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto during the month of February for Black History Month. Once again, I am thrilled to be a part of it. Here is the design for the invitation:

The technique for this design was created using vector art. Learn more about it here.

This project requires a certain level of style and sophistication. Yet still have the flexibility to translate across several mediums. All of the imagery was drawn from The Vectorvault Vector Library. I wanted to make sure that it could live with the visual design of the film. I learned allot about the importance of symbolism from Tyson Brown. A RasTa himself with a passion for world history and the significance of RasTafari within it. He kept me on track.
If you are in Toronto during February, please visit The ROM and explore the rich history surrounding this mysterious and often misunderstood religion.

It’s been a great experience…

RasTa Live Event – My Speech

September 11, 2011 by Adam Jarvis 3 Comments

Last night, I was asked to speak at a film premier party smack dab in the “eye of the TIFF hurricane”. A special night for me. One that I will not soon forget.
I added my speech to the end of the post below. If you are interested in hearing what I had to say click the image and scroll to the bottom of the post:
An evening that really changed me as an artist and a person.

Vector Bob Marley portrait

Bob Marley is the greatest superstar that this planet has ever known (take that Elvis). MJ came close, but Bob is on the level of a prophet not a pop star. His music transcends race, nationality and age.

Prayitnowidodo has created this amazing image that captures the smile that defined the Rastafari movement.

Great job.

Donisha Prendergast – Representing Rastafari

October 14, 2010 by Adam Jarvis 4 Comments

Donisha Prendergast, Grand Daughter of the legendary Bob and Rita Marley is on a quest. As we have mentioned before, her documentary Rasta – A Soul’s Journey is currently in international production.
Sway Magazine had a chance to site down with Donisha to discuss the project and the impact that it has already had on her and others. Read more here.

“Her cinematic journey encounters Rastafari communities in the U.S., Israel, India, Jamaica, South Africa, Ethiopia, Canada and the United Kingdom. In these countries, she meets with men and women who have chosen a Rastafari lifestyle, explore how the movement evolved in that particular place and ultimately hopes to find her purpose as a young Rasta woman.”

The Rasta logo was a collaboration between myself (Adam Jarvis), Len Henry and Corwin Hall of Yaudie. It’s a real thrill to see “Rastafari Royalty” wearing this.

“”It’s the in thing to be green. In terms of nature and connecting with nature, I mean, that’s what everybody is doing right now. Right? It’s the in thing to eat healthy and it’s the in thing to love your brother and love your sister. I smile at these things, you know. I don’t smile in a ridiculing way. I smile for peace. Because, this is what my grandfather was preaching about. This is what Rastafari has been talking about, you know. Eating good, living green, giving back to nature and living in love with your brother and your sister. You know. So. Rasta is all over this world whether we want to admit it or not.”
– Donisha
