(VIDEO) Toyota Backseat Driver FREE iPhone App

July 14, 2011 by Adam Jarvis 2 Comments

Adorable concept. Much more fun than popping in a DVD for the “little rug rats”. The journey is the game. Love it.
Did I mention it’s free?

Backseat Driver, the first product introduced by ToyToyota, is an iPhone application which allows kids to enjoy driving from the back seat of their car.
The player controlling My Car follows Papa Car, whose moves mirror the route of the real car in which the player is riding, using the iPhone’s GPS functionality. By steering My Car left and right to follow Papa Car’s path and pick up objects, the player can score points. Backseat Driver offers the passenger a new way to enjoy the driving.
The route that you took will be saved automatically so that you can look over.
You can gain points by collecting the items Papa Car drops, and the Landmark Icons of shops and facilities that are from the real maps. After you gained some points, you can customize your car with your own designs. The designs of your car and the saved route you took can be shared via Twitter.
Let’s grow your car more and more, by enjoying the actual car ride!

Interface design has been pushed to new places. And certainly the iPad platform has challenged designers to approach the way we interact with technology in exciting new ways. Watch this:

OscilloScoop is a perfect example of an application that starts over. It’s a music program that allows anyone to create soundscapes with through touch and experimentation. DEBTRIS – Visualizing debt through Tetris

January 4, 2011 by Adam Jarvis 1 Comment

International economics is a pretty tough thing to wrap your mind around. But thanks to this simple “TETRIS-style” animation, things become more clear. Bottom line: you thought it was bad – it’s actually much worse that you can ever imagine.

The Quick Brown Fox Jumps over the Lazy Dog – Typeface Memory Game

October 6, 2010 by Adam Jarvis Leave a Comment

This very attractively finished typographic memory game includes 25 variations of the letter ‘A’, each in a different letter type. Players attempt to find the matching A’s in the same letter type. The player who has the highest number of matching letters wins the game.
Typographic information about the letter is included on the card, and a separate folder provides a general history of the typography. This is an enjoyable and instructive game for graphic designers and anyone who is fascinated by letter types.
As you play, you increasingly recognize what are often very subtle differences between the letters and more about the details of the letter types. They become progressively easier to recognize and distinguish from one another (even Univers and Helvetica!) Among the letter types included in the game are Akzidenz Grotesk, Baskerville, Centaur, Garamond, Helvetica Rockwell, Times New Roman, Univers and many more.
The game was assembled and designed by the Brazilian design studio, ps.2 arquitetura + de

Pantone Rubik's Cube: Color Matching For Nerds

November 2, 2008 by Adam Jarvis Leave a Comment

If pouring over color swatches at Home Depot leaves you overwhelmed, the Rubitone could make the process easier by helping to assess your options in a form that nerds can understand. Unlike a traditional Rubik’s cube, the object here is not to solve it, but to match colors that might look good in a bedroom or living space. The problem is that Rubitone is only a concept, so my walls will just have to stay plain and white for now.
