Japanese Anime Dream Motorcyle

By Katalis and Machine 56

EV-1K/56 embodies the inspiration of retro military aircraft design combined with cutting edge futuristic graphic blueprint. This next level collaboration with @katalis.co , a multidisciplinary design studio based in Jakarta, Indonesia, is geared towards eco-conscious riders who also appreciate progressive outlook in electric vehicle design. This EV-1K/56 is designed by the principal designer of Katalis, Julian Palapa, an architect by discipline and enhanced with powerful graphic elements of M56, taking the future of mobility to be transformed into a work of art, worthy of museum display.

An evolution of the Katalis EV.500 electric motorcycle.

I’m not sure which I love more, the stunning minimal design of the body or the striking vector graphic design that covers it. Whatever it is, I want to sit on this environmentally-friendly work of motorcycle art.

LA NIGHT – Yasako Agawa

Japanese rare groove

This track is a tribute to Light of the World‘s song “London Town” (below) recorded in 1980.
In this age of confinement, tracks like this transport us to another place and time.

Will I ever see California again?

High precision Scope Node mouse

June 21, 2011 by Adam Jarvis 1 Comment

Japan –
This looks like a weapon. And I guess in many ways it is. Leave it to the Japanese to come up with a mouse that pin points your clicks like this for around $65. Stunning design with a “must have” quality.

Elecom Japan have released a new mouse in Japan that is being advertised as a more precise option than your typical rodent. The key to precision, according to Elecom, is the positioning of the laser.
The mouse is called the Scope Node M-SN1UL and has been designed to feel, “Like you’re holding a pen”. The idea being that the position of the laser on the base of the mouse should correspond to where your fingers sit above. So the Scope Node laser sits almost directly underneath the tip of your index finger.

Hatsune Miku – Holographic Pop Star?

November 11, 2010 by Adam Jarvis 5 Comments

Japan –
Hatsune Miku is one of the biggest pop stars in all of Japan. She’s also a virtual avatar created by Crypton Media using Yamaha’s Vocaloid voice synthesizer. That right. You heard what I said – She’s a hologram!
Check out this live concert performance of “Promise”. A track that only a robot could love. Hypnotic and annoying all rolled into one. Turn DOWN your speakers if you have any consideration for those around you. But open your eyes to the future of “live” music (unfortunately).
Oh Japan, is there nothing that you can’t do?

Vector Barcode design from Japan

November 11, 2009 by Adam Jarvis 3 Comments

Japan –
D-Barcode is a company in Japan that has found a trendy design niche that apparently, companies are paying big money for. The Barcode has become an invisible (but necessary) element in all universal packaging design. Until now, no one has dared to add any flare to this series of random lines. The results are really quite charming:

barcode_vector

“…They’ve even begun selling their wares to anyone who wants to license them, starting at $1,500 for the design, and $200 a year for licensing. A custom or exclusive use code will run upwards of $4,000–but given that companies spend millions on designing a single package, why don’t we see more detailed thinking like this? Middle managers spend weeks arguing about kerning–it’d be better if they spent more time rethinking every inch of such highly prized real estate.”
