VECTOR TUTORIAL – 3D INFOGRAPHICS by Wendy Ding
Toronto, Canada –
The way that we digest information has certainly changed somewhat. A simple bar graph or dazzling pie chart just does not seem to cut it. It’s a challenge to capture large amounts of data into a single image. No one seems to know this better than Adobe Illustrator Guru (and fellow countryman) Wendy Ding.
Wendy takes you through a step by step walkthrough of how she plans out a 3D infographic. This is a must read for anyone who is interested in becoming a better graphic designer. When you think about it. That’s what this job is all about – communicating through imagery and graphics. Enjoy:

See-Through Vector Car Illustration Tutorial
Every so often, an illustrator comes to our attention that simply stands apart from the rest. Kevin Hulsey is such an artist. He possess a balance of patience, skill and vision that has helped him to produce some wonderful works of art. Here is one of our favorite examples of his genius:
Illustration Stats – Size: 26″ @ 350 dpi, 290 mb CMYK File with 22 Layers / Illustration Time: 350 hrs.
Software: Line Art – Adobe Illustrator CS CS2, Color – Adobe Photoshop CS CS2
Hardware: Apple Power Mac G5, Drawing Tablet: Wacom
“In this lesson we are going to create a 3-Point Perspective-view drawing of a generic car, working from plan and elevation view reference only (Fig 1 below). This type of angle is referred to as a “3/4 Perspective” or “Angular Perspective” view. For more information on perspective drawing techniques, go to: 2 Point Perspective Drawing Tutorial. The general rule of thumb is to divide this view of the car into thirds, showing one third of the car from the front (or back for a rear engine car), and two thirds of the car from the (drivers) side.
The final color work was done in Adobe Photoshop (See the tutorial – Ghosting Technique for more information on painting in Photoshop). The techniques used in this demonstration tutorial are applicable to any 3 dimensional perspective drawing, regardless of scale or complexity.”

VECTOR TUTORIAL – BMX illustration
The Action Sports Industry (ASI) is geared for Skate boarders, Surfers, Snowboarders and any other kind of board driven sports enthusiast I may be overlooking as I write this.
ASI is filled with adrenaline driven and very passionate and active (Duh!) individuals who love pushing the limits of both their sport and lifestyle. They are loyal to and approve of authentic brands and despise posers. Needless to say Its a fun industry to design for.
Much of the problem however has nothing to do with the art itself but rather its individuals who tend to be jealous of others success and their failure to market themselves in a commercial sense. If an illustrator can be successful in both arenas it makes art snobs feel threatened so the best defense is to talk down illustration as if it cannot apply to the fine arts market.
This tutorial will walk you through my illustrative design solution for several BMX bike graphics.

VECTOR TUTORIAL – Camera lens
by Bill Labus
In this tutorial, we’ll create a detailed camera lens similar to the one used as the logo for Apple’s Aperture photo-editing software. A camera lens is good for a software icon, logo, or just as a graphic for use in any design. Although, the image appears detailed, the process of creating it involves little more than simply layering objects with different fills and gradients to give a three-dimensional illusion.

VECTOR TUTORIAL – The basics of producing a portrait
“…Every artist have their own style of creating a vector portrait ranging from ultra-realistic to very cartoony. What youll learn in this website is my style of making one and hopefully you can come up with our style after learning the basics of vector art.”
This easy to follow tutorial is a great way to get yourself acquainted with drawing in vector art. This instruction begins by tracing a decent-resolution image with some basic vector tools. Even a seasoned illustrator may even find this technique helpful. Good luck.
